Winter is a great time for spotting birds at Ilam Park. Look up high in the trees or stand quietly by the river, you may be lucky enough to spot a dipper or two swooping on to a rock on the river. How many birds will you spot as you explore Ilam Park on our self-led family trail. Our trail runs from the 15th - 23rd February and visitors can pick up a trail for £1 from the shop at Ilam Park between 11am - 3pm. Your visit helps us to plant more native trees across the White Peak landscape and create more homes for wildlife - thank you.
For more info please head to the Ilam Park website.

Volunteer Photographer and Walk Leader @cerbykev has been on one of his winter wanders and his photos never cease to amaze us. His talent for capturing his passion for Longshaw and the Peak District through a lens, inspires us every time. We receive thousands of visitors each year and we aim to provide every visitor with a warm welcome and the information they need to make their visit memorable. From sharing your favourite walk, to making recommendations for the best paddling spots or where to see a Dipper, this is a rewarding volunteering role that often involves making someone’s day!
By getting involved you could… - Be part of an enthusiastic and supportive team
- Meet people of all backgrounds and nationalities, and share your knowledge to help them have a fantastic day out
- Help inform visitors about our conservation work, such as tree planting, flood prevention, footpath work and habitat restoration.
If you are able to give 1 day per week between April and September, and enjoy being outdoors and talking with all types of people, we would love to hear from you. Please contact Roxanne, Membership & Retail Manager, on 01335 350245.
#Tuesdaythoughts - For views that inspire us everyday. Thanks to Ranger Roz for this idyllic photo looking down towards the Derwent Valley. As Octavia Hill, one of the three founders of the National Trust, so eloquently put it, "We all want quiet. We all want beauty … we all need space. Unless we have it, we cannot reach that sense of quiet in which whispers of better things come to us gently." With your support we can continue to look after views like this, that provide us with inspiration, quiet moments and beauty - thank you.
We would like to thank the South Yorkshire Orienteers for their donation of £200 which we will put towards the important conservation work we deliver in the Peak District. We work closely with the group and other event providers, to try and enable their activities to go ahead on land we care for, whilst ensuring a balance is kept between people’s enjoyment and the precious landscapes we care for. "South Yorkshire Orienteers strongly support the work the National Trust does in preserving places of historic interest and areas of natural beauty and we are extremely grateful for them allowing us to hold orienteering events on their properties. Our events are open to members of the public and make a great activity for all the family – visit our website for more details...." https://www.southyorkshireorienteers.org.uk/

So for all of you starting New Year resolutions and finding it tough to get started, give this a read and feel inspired, it certainly made us smile. "First of all, apologies to the people whose ankles I’ve nipped over the last year or two. I wasn’t really trying to steer you into a tree, or a pond, it was just my learner buggy running status, honest. And maybe me getting a bit carried away, as runners my age sometimes do..."
