🇯🇵 Pagoda and Guardian Statues, Toshogu Shrine, Nikko, Japan, December 2019
Fun Fact: The beautiful - but unfortunately difficult to photograph - five-storey pagoda on the way to Toshogu Shrine is as high as the Skytree in Tokyo. Wait a minute: The Skytree is with 634 meters the second highest building in the world. How can the pagoda in Nikko be that high? Solution of the riddle: Taking into account the sea level, the pagoda is also 634 meters high. This is indicated by a plaque on the pagoda. Since the skytree is modelled on a five-storey pagoda, this will not be a coincidence.
Furthermore I would like to show you in this post (see photos 3 and 4) two magnificent guardian statues from the "Gate of Sunlight". As already said in the last post: “Never say splendid till you see Nikko.”
