In full on Christmas mode today. A bit of late online. Crossing fingers for on time delivery! Grateful for same day, next day, and two day delivery!
This year I decorated the house a little more than usual, and have more than 1 Christmas tree for the first time ever! I picked up 4, 4ft $5.99 reusable trees at a dollar store (that I plan on reusing) and placed them on plant stands all around the house. All minimally decorated with dollar store and thrift shop finds, as well as old ornaments we already owned. The main tree is a real tree, and I’m still debating on how sustainable that is, since I’ve read strong argument for using real trees, but have also seen some thought for the use of artificial trees. For now I have a combination of both, and I know that the real tree will be converted to mulch.
Artificial or Real? Thoughts?
Decorating for the holidays does not have to be expensive or over the top. When new ornaments or decorations are needed, making the best choices at a dollar store goes a long way, and picking up some thrift shop ornaments also helps personalized the décor. I work on purchasing anything that can be reused/combined, so that I cut down on having to purchase new the next year. This year was a little different in our home, because we are just getting back to our normal celebratory mode, and I had to purchase what we had previously gotten rid of. I’ll be sure to reuse all that I purchased this year, for years to come.
Some tips on dollar store buying: * - Neutral colors that can be combined with other choices. Whites, browns, clear, silver…
* - Natural décor – Pinecones, Acorns, Natural looking garland
* - Christmas balls that are monotone
* - Any quality easy DIY supplies
* - Wooden ornaments
How are you decking the halls this year? Any thrifty ideas to share?
