Decorating the Christmas Tree today has been a real mix of emotions, with being super excited for all the festivities with the kids and letting them join in, to then constantly being reminded of some amazing times we had with the now missing piece of our family, our wonderful dog Nutter, who now takes his new pride of place at the top of our Tree.
Nutter was the first thing that me and Lew ever truly owned and were responsible for together, he saw us through the adoption of our little boy and very quickly they became the very best of friends. He then saw us through the process of adopting our gorgeous girly and waited all the way until it was finally approved through the courts, before then growing his angel wings. We like to believe that he was sort of sent here to create our little family before his job was done, it makes it easier to think about.
It’s a very hard thing for us to ever talk about in our house, as we are both still upset about it and the poor boy just doesn’t really understand why he cannot just come back. We obviously explain it to him so he understands, but every now and then there are still a few tears as he says things like ‘but I love him’ and we have to just reply with ‘and he loves you too and now looks out for you from the stars’ which he seems happy with.
Every year we buy a new special decoration and have done since we have been together, but this year we haven’t had to buy one, as this most beautiful decoration was sent to us by someone very special. The boy was so excited to put it on the tree himself today, as we know deep down just how much he misses him and will love knowing he’s at the top.
Remember, as much as Christmas is a very fun and exciting time for most of us, there are lots of people who find it a hard time for many different reasons, so this year make sure you look out for those people more than ever before and send them that text, give them that phone call, or even better, pop round and give them some festive company. Much love to you all from Rich and Lew xxx
